Culture is that complex whole which includes all habits and capabilities that we acquire as part of a society. History, traditions, art, language, knowledge, morals and values, religion, customs, law, beliefs, gender roles, eating habits, political ideas, etc., all make up what we define as culture.

It is not a simple task to bring cultures together, to achieve communication amongst them and coexistence, in a climate of respect and appreciation.

.
The Opening ceremony of the Expo 2015 of Milan, on April 30th, celebrated the beginning of such a bringing together of cultures.

.
The Expo 2015 was presented in a celebration of the Italian culture. The Italians organized the event in a magnificent way that only they know how to. A magical evening of opera music, with the orchestra and the choir of the Teatro alla Scala of Milan and the participation of Andrea Bocelli, Diana Damrau, world renowned pianist Lang Lang, and other important figures of the world of opera.

.
The host of the ceremony, Paolo Bonolis, greeted the spectators with a humorous multilingual welcome, in honor of the participating countries of the Expo 2015. A number of the exposition’s pavilions were presented in between opera pieces of La Traviata, Il trovatore, Aida, Tosca, and many more.

.
An evening of quality, of art and history. Italy, with pride and respect for its own culture, welcomed and embraced the traditions, the customs and ideas of 145 countries from around the world, in this universal exposition of “Nutrire il pianeta, energia per la vita” – “Feed the planet, energy for life”.

.
What a lovely way to bring together the world’s cultures! For six months, art, food, beliefs, languages, knowledge, habits, customs and dreams from around the world will come together to bring a message for a healthier planet with food for all.

Enjoy a part of the evening in the video below.
